Workers in from the south coast will bear the brunt of devastating cutbacks at Australia's biggest steelmaker, with fears hundreds of people will struggle to find new work.
Staff arriving at BlueScope Steel's Port Kembla plant on Monday were told the company will axe jobs, reduce production and halt exports.
At least 800 permanent jobs are being cut and a blast furnace shut down at the 760-hectare facility near Wollongong.
